About Leergeld Netherlands

Leergeld Nederland is the umbrella organization for 113 local Leergeld foundations in the Netherlands that are committed to helping children living in poverty. Its goal is clear: every child should be able to participate. Whether it's sports, school supplies, a laptop, or a bicycle, Leergeld Nederland ensures that children are not left out. By providing resources through local Leergeld foundations, children are given the opportunities they deserve. After all, participation means a better start in life and a greater chance of growing up to become full participants in society.

For this customer case, we speak with Yvonne Rood, Helpdesk, Training & Development Officer for Learning Systems at Leergeld Nederland.

The reason for the collaboration with Referit

When the supplier of Leergeld Nederland's old registration system wanted to discontinue its services, the need arose for a future-proof solution. A previous successful project at one of the affiliated foundations, Stichting Leergeld Drechtsteden, formed the basis for the initial contact with Referit.

With a growing number of applications, various external partners, and internal processes that needed to be coordinated, a robust, flexible, and well-supported registration system was necessary. Referit was asked to develop this new platform, and since then we have been closely involved in the daily support and further development of Lisy2021: the registration system.

The solution: Lisy2021, a platform built on Dynamics 365

The Lisy2021 platform, built on Dynamics 365, forms the digital heart of the organization. The system streamlines the entire application process for families, from registering the family, the child, and the application, to the assessment and final payment or transfer to the systems of other partners.

Applications are processed automatically via smart links to systems such as Twinfield (administration), SharePoint (document management), websites, and the systems of external parties such as Jarige Job, Kinderhulp, and Jeugdfonds Sport & Cultuur. These links are essential: if Lisy2021 does not work, assistance to children stagnates.

Referit ensures that all technical links continue to function and that new requests and areas for improvement are addressed based on a priority list. This list is compiled by Yvonne and the director of Leergeld Nederland based on discussions with a user group. This user group includes users who work at various foundations and therefore work with the system on a daily basis. Together with Leergeld Nederland, Referit ensures that Lisy2021 continues to develop and can adapt to changing needs.

When applying for a bicycle for a child, it is important that the payment request is processed quickly and effortlessly. The sooner the child can cycle to school, the better.

Practice environment and reports

In addition, we help improve data quality. Common errors, such as incorrectly filled-in fields, are reviewed step by step and prevented. A separate practice environment has also been set up, a copy of the Lisy2021 system, so that intermediaries and employees at the foundations can familiarize themselves with the system. This allows them to train without any risks in the production environment.

Reports have also become an important part of the platform. The first reports have been delivered so that the right KPIs can be monitored. Thanks to Power BI, foundations and the umbrella association can now gain insight into applications, trends, and performance. The aim is for these reports to provide insight into the results and impact of Leergeld organizations and to assist in both internal decision-making and discussions with ministries and other stakeholders.

The collaboration: switching gears quickly with confidence

What Leergeld Nederland appreciates in its collaboration with Referit is the personal contact and direct communication. In particular, the collaboration with Silvan, a developer at Referit, is considered very pleasant: "The collaboration with Silvan is very smooth and enjoyable; we understand each other and complement each other. With my input, he knows exactly what is needed to solve the problem, and I ensure that there is good communication with the user(s)," says Yvonne Rood.

Yvonne Rood is currently handing over her work to Rick van de Water, who will take over her duties at Leergeld Nederland from July 1, 2025. Leergeld Nederland would like to thank Yvonne for her tremendous dedication and commitment to Leergeld Nederland and wishes her all the best in her future career! Referit would also like to wish Yvonne all the best in her future career.
